Hi Liz,
I was, indeed, excited to see you in the meeting!

Zoom uses live captions by Otter.ai. In zoom, the speakers are identified, whereas not so in Microsoft PowerPoint. And you can have a side panel where you can read the transcript from the start of the meeting any time you want.

The live caption transcript can also be saved. But this transcript seems to be different from the time-stamped transcript that we get with the cloud recording as a .vtt file. I need to check that more closely another time.

Best,

Sam

Good afternoon

I was on a Zoom meeting with Sam today for our Colorado regional meeting. Thanks so much for giving a great overview of accessibility, particularly with D2L (smile).

You mentioned using PPT live captions over Zoom’s live captions, which are now available. This reminded me of a report I recently saw from 3Play and Speechmatics:
Understanding Live Automatic Captioning Quality (3Play and Speechmatics report)https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fpresentation%2Fd%2F1dMnCTFx0KK72u1IU4fC17BnMYJ81r8fACd8C0cDLMhQ%2Fedit%3Fusp%3Dsharing&data=04%7C01%7Csambhavi.chandrashekar%40d2l.com%7C1fcc295ef10b423b955c08d8b99f93ac%7C74bbca6d410b45b39b512a6aa6477079%7C0%7C0%7C637463443680862960%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=09RB%2BEhgKPv1YQDnuzTIH0HyX1TlBuzBXb%2BLe6iBoKQ%3D&reserved=0

In this report, they find that Microsoft’s automatic captions are the top (under Speechmatics, which I think is the company 3Play uses). I’ve definitely been impressed with the accuracy of Microsoft’s auto-cc recently. I’m curious what Zoom uses for its automatic captions? I’ve been testing them, and they have been pretty accurate during meetings, too, as long as folks aren’t talking too quickly or over each other. I’m looking forward to hearing from Zoom’s team next month at our meeting!

Have an excellent weekend,
